Cultural Environmental Systems, Inc.  (C&ES, Inc.)  is a woman-owned, Tucson–based, small business incorporated in the State of Arizona. We offer our clients consulting services in the disciplines of anthropology, archaeology, history and historic preservation. Since 1984 the firm has helped to provide management oriented alternatives and consensus driven solutions to help our clients to meet their regulatory and compliance needs in the context of their projects by documenting and preserving our nation’s non-renewable prehistoric and historic cultural resources in the Greater Southwest-Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah.

Started in 1983, C&ES originally was the Arizona branch of a California-based firm. In November of 1984, it was established as a separate company. Since that time, 2000 projects have been successfully completed in the Greater Southwest for a diverse group of clients-municipal, county, state and federal agencies; the gas, oil and minerals industry, renewable energy firms, utility cooperatives and corporations; and municipal and county public works and private development.

Our client’s project needs have ranged from small surveys (less than 1-acre) to large scale (18,000-acres) multi-phased, multi-disciplinary survey projects; phased excavation involving testing and data recovery; archival research and oral history, individual assessment and recording of historic properties and districts; nomination of properties to the National Register of Historic Places; development of treatment plans for archaeological sites and historic properties. We have a proven record of professional work, conducted in an ethical, timely and cost effective manner that meets our clients’ needs.

Cultural & Environmental Systems has developed a strong working relationship with federal, state, county and local governments, regulatory agencies and their departments. With almost thirty years of experience the firm has a keen understanding of the Southwest region’s cultural resources. This depth of knowledge benefits our clients by providing efficient management assessments of a project’s impacts and comprehensive evaluation of alternate plans to meet the client’s regulatory compliance needs

Cultural & Environmental Systems provides a team based approach to our services. We facilitate open communication with our clients and work to identify the regulations that are pertinent to your project and to clarify your needs at each phase of the project. The team assigned to your project stays with the project to maintain consistency, critical schedules, budgets, and a commitment to provide a quality product that enhances your project and ensures compliance requirements are met. This approach has a proven record of lower project costs, meeting deadlines and review and compliance needs and successful completion of each project.
